Third Time’s a Charm: Work and a Bit of Play in Sydney

Updated: Jun 17, 2024

I took a trip to Australia for the third time this year, but this time it was for work. I had the opportunity to meet some fantastic colleagues from our Sydney office and managed to squeeze in trying some delightful cafes, savoring great food, and even catching a magical play during my free time—a truly fun and worthwhile quick trip Down Under.

A Historic Gem: Locomotive Workshop

I was gushing over our office location in the Locomotive Workshop, a charming brick building in South Eveleigh. This old building, brimming with character, left me in awe; I couldn't stop taking pictures in every corner. It's said to be an old industrial site, now transformed into a vibrant industrial hub with stores and restaurants that beautifully blend history and modernity. Talking about character, it has a lot of it, and I love it!

Morning Jogs: A Daily Delightful Exploration

Sydney’s café culture is something I always look forward to. During my stay, I took morning jogs each day, which allowed for some café hunting for breakfast and the chance to try some favorite spots and discover new ones. Here, I'm sharing some morning-run photos and the cafés I've tried:

  • Single O Surry Hills: I saw great reviews online and knew I couldn't miss this spot. It was less than 1 km away from where I stayed, so it was perfect. Renowned for its ethically sourced coffee and innovative brunch menu, it’s an ideal spot to start the day. I ordered the avocado toast with a twist (The Avo Show), and it was divine.

  • The Grounds of the City: Situated on George Street, this café exudes chic sophistication. The interior is a captivating blend of vintage charm and modern elegance, featuring ornate fixtures, plush seating, and rich wooden accents. The ambiance is both cozy and stylish, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing coffee break. I tried their steak and eggs, and it was mind-blowing, though I didn't manage to do it justice with a photo.

One of the highlights of the trip was meeting my colleagues and enjoying a breathtaking Sydney sunset with them. It was a perfect way to celebrate our Christmas party, sharing stories and laughter while watching the sun dip below the horizon, and painting the sky with hues of orange and pink.

On my free evening, I had the pleasure of catching "Beauty and the Beast" at the Capitol Theater. The production was nothing short of magical. The enchanting sets, breathtaking costumes, and stellar performances had me engaged the entire time. The Capitol Theater itself is a gem, with its ornate architecture adding to the overall experience. It was a perfect way to unwind and end the day.

A quick detour at QVB before heading to the airport was the perfect final touch. Ciao Sydney, till next time!
