We took some time to contemplate visiting the renowned Indonesian paradise, Bali, as our home in the Philippines already boasted an abundance of stunning beaches. However, when we eventually made the decision to go, fate had other plans, and our journey coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the day of our flight, Singapore reported its first COVID-19 case, and I urged my husband to cancel, but it was too late. Arriving in Bali, we found a surreal world where panic buying had emptied the shelves of face masks. We opted for caution during our 10-day stay, spending most of our time at our peaceful Ubud hotel, nestled amidst lush greenery.

Though we ventured out to see some iconic sights like the Tegalalang Rice Terraces, Monkey Forest Sanctuary, and Uluwatu Temple, our excursions were brief due to our concerns. Despite not fully exploring Bali, we learned to slow down and appreciate the simple joys amidst the chaos.

Our journey during those uncertain times made an enduring impression on us. It taught us that even in uncertainty, beauty could be found in moments of reflection and relaxation. Bali's tranquility and warm hospitality engraved a memory in our hearts, assuring us of a return to explore all the wonders this island held once the world had healed.
